A community together on the path to recovery

For almost 50 years Keystone has been on the front lines in the treatment of substance use disorders in York County and our surrounding communities.

Keystone is the area’s leader in addiction recovery; on any given day, more than 160 adolescents and adults are enrolled in our outpatient, residential and inpatient treatment programs.

Patients may enter care through self-referral or as a referral from a physician, the courts, a family member or other community agencies. If you seek help at Keystone, you will be admitted to a treatment program after our staff conducts a screening or assessment to determine your individual needs and the level of care you require.

What Keystone Patients Can Expect

While all of Keystone’s treatment plans are customized to each patient’s individual needs, as well as the needs of their families, there is a common treatment progression that you can expect as a patient at Keystone.

Assessment & Admission

This is the first step toward treatment—it may also be the hardest step, but it is incredibly important. A thorough evaluation of your personal situation and individual needs will help our staff ensure that you get the care that you need and help set a path for ongoing success. During this step, a Licensed or Certified Counselor or Nurse will complete an assessment with you, using current medical and mental health criteria, in order to make a diagnosis. This bio-psycho-social and/or nursing assessment is used to determine an initial diagnosis, severity of illness, and an appropriate level of care, as developed by the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Keystone will gather historical information from you, as well as information regarding your strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences. All of this information will help us determine the focus of services, if needed, and the level of care that will best meet your needs.

Treatment Team & Service Coordination

At Keystone, we make treatment decisions as a team so that our patients get the benefit of multiple opinions and all of the expertise we have available. Once your assessment is completed, your counselor will review the clinical impressions and findings from your assessment with the treatment team and determine the best course of action.

Individual Plan of Care and Transition

Counselors and medical staff, together with each patient, deploy information gathered during assessment to develop an individual plan of care tailored for your specific needs. The plan is like a contract—it spells out program and treatment objectives, the recommended therapeutic services, and other activities. The plan includes the patient’s responsibilities, the program’s responsibilities, identification of the person responsible for service coordination, and how progress will be measured. You will also begin completing a Transition Plan that will address your care during and after services.

HIV Education & Testing

Keystone created this program in response to the growing demand for better education about HIV awareness and prevention. The program occurs on-site at the Keystone campus, where patients receive prevention, intervention and treatment for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues. The HIV Coordinator presents to Withdrawal Management weekly and rotates through all other treatment groups every 8 to 10 weeks. The presentations teach Keystone staff, patients and patient families about HIV/AIDS/TB prevention and risk reduction and include pre and post test counseling when applicable. Each presentation is tailored to the target audience and, following the presentation, patients are given the opportunity to take the OraQuick Rapid HIV Test. Keystone’s staff has seen a sharp increase in the number of patients requesting the HIV test since we began offering it in-house. Keystone’s Continuum of Care and Length of Services

Keystone offers prevention, intervention, outpatient, and inpatient services to youth, young adults and adults. As a part of your individual plan of care, you will be given the day and time to start your services.

If you enter treatment, it is not an easy process. You may experience times of sadness, anxiety and loneliness, but you’ll also find moments of joy, laughter and hope as you move through the process. It’s likely you’ll make new and meaningful friendships amongst your peers and forge new, honest connections with those who are currently in your life. Good outcomes are contingent on adequate lengths of service.

Although most programs have a minimum length of stay, the length of time you attend a program is individualized and based on your progress. All of our more intensive services are followed up by Recovery Management, ongoing peer support groups, and an Alumni Program so patients can continue to check-in after completing intensive levels of care. When you seek help at Keystone, we are committed to your long-term success.
