It’s called York County HOPE, or Heroin and Opioid prevention and education.

It was launched Tuesday by Keystone Substance Abuse Services and York County All On Board.

Jeff and Terri Benson lost their daughter Jessica in February to a heroin overdose.

Terri Benson says parents need to learn to recognize the symptoms.

“Missing spoons, sleeping all day, missing work, dropping out of school, damaged relationships, trouble with the law.  If your loved on is afflicted, you hold a torch of hope that they will overcome their illness. Understand that they are powerless over their addiction.  You need to practice tough love.”

Terri says you should stop enabling and rescuing the addict, because it just prolongs the recovery.

Meanwhile, All On Board and Keystone say between 2009 and last month,  more than 3.1 million doses of prescription medicine were collected through Operation Medicine Drop.
